In my limited experience the rubber fails first, then the bearing.

[MBZ] Driveshaft center support

2019-08-18 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes
When replacing the drive shaft center support, should the bearing and
the rubber part that mounts to the car both be replaced?  I need to do
mine on my 210 and for some reason none of my usual sites importec and
fcp list the the rubber part, only the bearing.  I had to go to
autohausaz for the rubber part.  Seems odd the others would not have it.

I am not sure if a lot of these places are wanting you to create a site
then host it with them.  I just need something that will build a site
then I can upload the files to my server.

I think I am going to get that 99 E320 with tranny stuck in limp mode,
she had the price down to $590, I'll give her 5 maybe if I'm feeling
generous.  It looks half nice, fixing it would probably be
cheaper/easier at this point than the $500E300 (which I will get to
"some day") or the $500E500 which needs air struts all around I think,
at least, and probably motor mounts as I see the belt rubbing on a
radiator hose.  If I can get the fancy computer to talk to the ML I want
to get that sorted too, either drive it or sell it or something.

Yep. I thought about seeing if I could pick it up cheap and get it going but
I’m not sure I want to mess with a car that is not even equipped with AC. I
guess I would be a good winter car. But even at that how the hell would you
keep your windows from digging up while driving?

Seam Sealer: This sounds like what I need, except it does not mention UV
resistance:

ACDelco Medium Body Seam-Sealing Compound is a high performance seam and
joint sealer with excellent adhesion to most surfaces. It is water
resistant, stays permanently flexible, and withstands weathering,
oxidation, salt water, gasoline, and most solvents. This product is safe to
use on automotive paint. ACDelco Medium Body Seam-Sealing Compound should
not be applied near catalytic convertors and mufflers, due to extreme heat
conditions. For Professional Use Only, Not for Retail Sale.

However, the reviews on Amazon are rather negative.

Re: [MBZ] This Never Gets Old

2019-08-18 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
This is the part that I was talking about.

210-720-00-42

Looking at pictures of this part revealed in a web search, there is a green
part and a white part, joined by a rivet. On my '95, IIRC, my rear windows
had a grey part and a white part. I drilled out the rivet on the new part,
separating the green from the white, and then replaced the (broken) white
part on my car's regulator. I may be remembering this wrong, maybe it was
the green part that I reused, but the idea is similar. This 210 part has a
plastic part (either green or white) that you can use to repair a 124 rear
window regulator for much less than the cost of a new regulator, IF indeed
the failure you have is similar to how mine failed.

Be sure to get the right rivets, as they’re metric, of course. You can get
close with rivets for the majik drawers at you local Ace Hardware.

I'll bet that the plastic piece is broken, that connects the glass to the car
that rides up and down the track. The motor pulls a wire around to move the
car.

You can purchase the plastic piece, drill out the rivet holding the old,
install the new with a small bolt and nut. I think the piece is sold as a 210
part for front window regulator.

If it's a W124, that is a wire operated window lift. Plan on a new regulator,
it's not really possible to replace the broken plastic wheels and if the window
bracket is slipping (mine is from 5 Hot Wheels cars in the door) it's not
fixable.

They aren't expensive, but are a real pain to get in and out. Make sure you
get the correct one, the wiring changed somewhere along the line and the wires
with spade lugs won't fit into the switch housing like the ones with hollow
pins do

Take out the regulator and see what is broken.  Might be the plastic
slider thingie, easy fix, or if the gear on the arm has broken the
rivets that can be replaced too with a bolt ground down a bit, or just
get another regulator from a knacker.
