For some reason I keep returning to this ad. My family thinks I'm insane. Talk me out of it? A W126 with 164K miles ought to have a decent amount of left in it would it not? I've seen this before. The wife was driving, going down the road just fine, when the guy in front of her flipped a lit cigarette out the window. The lit cigarette got sucked into the cold air intake and settled on the air filter and started a fire. The wife drove until the smoke got too bad then she pulled over and the car just burned up. Yep, that just happened to another Mercedes in Claremore OK, just a few years ago. I read that on the internet. Patrick, First of all, you need to address your messages to “mercedes@okiebenz.com” to get to the list. Second, the fuel door can be unlocked manually by pulling the trunk liner down or out of the way just below the trunk hinge area. At that point you’ll be able to see the vacuum actuator fo the fuel door. There will be a red “mushroom” shaped knob on it. Gently pull that towards the back of the car (if I recall that’s the correct direction) and it will release the fuel door. I would add that this is covered in the owner’s manual as well, if you have one.
