2021-06-04 Thread John Ingram via Mercedes
The shifter is loose and the reverse lockout is gone. The mechanic doesn’t
want to take the shifter apart because it will make the car unmovable unless
you push it. I’d like to get a shifter and rebuild it and then switch them.
The problem is now finding a shifter.

I don't remember the MGC being too bad - it was tighter at the firewall,
byt I don't have any bad memories from working on them. I was working at a
"foreign car garage" putting myself through college in the late 60's, early
'70's, and saw a lot of MGs, Triumphs, Jags, VWs, Fiats, Simcas, and the
occasional MB and Jap cars.

I very much doubt that as the little 4 banger has
plenty of room around it. I don't know about how
that would work with an MGC with the bigger 6
cylinder it has. I have never looked under the
hood of one of those though I did get a chance to
drive one once a long time ago. Quite a nice
sporty ride and it seemed a whole lot faster then
the VW bus I was driving back then but then a lot

In my 1973 280 the reverse light was out. Turns out the fix involved
replacing the neutral safety switch, which required jacking up the

It was love at first sight when I saw a Renault 5 Turbo over 35 years

But a Cultus/Swift/Sprint/Metro/Firefly is lighter than a R5, and with

Things I've thought of doing but have not:

Restore/repaint my 2.3-16v with engine/transmission from a something63

It was love at first sight when I saw a Renault 5 Turbo over 35 years
ago, but they cost as much as a 240D and I couldn't afford that. Now I
can afford a 240D, any 240D, but not a nice R5 Turbo.
But a Cultus/Swift/Sprint/Metro/Firefly is lighter than a R5, and with a
modern turbo drivetrain from a compact or midsize FWD shoved in the back
seat, it'd be much cheaper and faster than Renault's 1980s rally
replica...

Friends had, for a while, a 16 foot jet boat with a 265HP 2 stroke
Mercury engine.

Thankfully, there were handholds literally everywhere.

my superior olympic strength butt cheeks, firmly gripping the seat cushion.
Absolutely no nannies were along for that ride. ahhh.. "The good old

[MBZ] USPS in action

2021-06-04 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Ordered a part for my Karmann Ghia last week from a seller in NC. Here
is the tracking history.

NC -> Cincinnati -> St. Louis -> Memphis -> Cincinnati -> Indianapolis.

Yes it transited through Cincinnati twice but not before touring two
other states. The efficiency does not seem optimal. It is kind of cool
that you can see it all though. Years ago you would just be waiting and
wondering. Hoping I will have it today.
