I judge it to be some really badly done bondo, with rust under the bondo. Just a guess, but that quarter panel got a serious hit and was repaired by a body hack with poor skills. [MBZ] 642 belt sqeek?
So I just finished up the GL after fixing the oil leaks on the front of the motor, cleaned the pulleys of oil. Installed a new belt and when I start it up now I have noticed a slight squeek at start up for a second or so. After it starts, I guess it sounds OK but seems like I might have one making some noise. I thought about it while I had it apart but I wonder if I should just go ahead and replace the tensioner? Well I had my new ML350 health checked today at the Mercedes dealer. On bad thing was found and I didn't really see it when I looked at the undercarriage. Good point. In reality, would it be unrealistic to think that any car with nearly 300k on the clock would have that sort of value unless it was some sort of unicorn? I talked to the guy and he’s not terribly forthcoming with information. I tried to tease as much as I could out of him, as I live nearby and would possibly consider it if the price was more in line with the age and miles. It is a one owner and they have service records (sort of) that are with the original mechanic in NJ, but they wouldn’t give me any information on the mechanic. I told the guy I wanted to get details on the work that’s been done on the car over it’s lifetime, like timing chain replacement(s), but he couldn’t tell me anything. Not sure what the dynamics are here, whether it’s a sentimental attachment or what, but they’re not making it easy, that’s for sure. I told him without more information or provenance it was worth about $3k, maybe $4k on a really good day. We’ll see, I guess. I’m just wondering about an M117 with close to 300k on it. Do you think there is any chance that the engine is sucking oil or trans fluid etc in somehow and running without the normal fuel feed and parking it nose up removes the source of fuel? Talked to someone on the net this morning who has a 1980 W123 300CD that does not want to shut off. Neither the vacuum shutdown nor the emergency shutoff under the hood would stop the engine. They discovered that if they parked it on an incline with the nose up, it would stop. My question is solely in regard to the nose up issue. Could it just be that the latch mechanism needs some lubrication? My hood release was getting hard to pull but a bit of oil improved it dramatically. If anyone has any tips... the irony is that I have done this adjustment before on the driver's door, so I obviously had the instructions somewhere!
