Mr. Engineer says:  _All_ normal ovens are convection.   (And radiant, when 
broiling.)
The correct term is _forced_ convection.  I.e. with an auxiliary fan.

I bought one of those single-burner 'copper' induction plates at a thrift shop.
Took it to the beach cabin, where cooking facilities are... interesting.  (I.e.
Brave Little Toaster meets One Million Years B.C.)

The 'induction' pan I'd also bought at a yard sale turned out to just be a
heavy-plate aluminum pan, and was useless.  But, the cast-iron skillet
hanging on the wall worked just fine, I made breakfast in it several times.

looks near-useless in the closed position.  When closed, the 'swim deck'
can be accessed by crawling over the bed.

Can the basement be accessed from the outside at all?  Or is it below the
waterline, and thus only accessible from inside, through the floor hatches.

I suspect that getting _out_ of the water is less trouble-free than they showed.

Looks like a solution in search of a problem.

My thoughts exactly.
Custom motor coach = $2,500,000 [on the low side]
Making it float = another $2,000,000 [Wild guess]
Adding outriggers so the slideouts can slide while in water = another $2+
million...
Then, the question of "What happens when you have wind while out on the
water, with the 8' x 40' "sail" of the body of the bus, above the waterline?
Does it flip?  Or, does it not? I don't see any provision for a keel or
stabilization...
Death trap on water, and at the bank... then, you have to build a huge
garage to house it at you HOA neighborhood that will not allow you to park
a motorhome [anywhere in sight]

Caveat emptor on steroids.

There’s really nothing that can prevent you from a major failure on a used car, 
but anyone who doesn’t do their due diligence has no basis to complain when 
things go down the toilet. This doofuss openly admits he didn’t check the car 
out and his obvious lack of knowledge just compounds the issue.

No basis for complaints here, really. Obviously a very, very expensive life 
lesson for this guy.

The narrator said something about optional slide-out floats.
Perhaps it was 'availability pending'.
And maybe that would give you outrigger canoe stability. It tilted quite 
a bit when people were on the roof for diving.

I wondered about that too. Drive it out of the water, put it in park, 
disengage prop drive, engage wheel drive. If there's not some sort of 
front wheel drive assist, are you supposed to cruise into the ramp at 7 
knots with your fingers crossed? Or maybe if you can't get out you can 
try to reverse up the ramp with the wheel drive engaged?

beyond its value (i.e. insurance write-off) and then repaired anyway?

I don't see minor bumper damage causing that. I've had fairly substantial 
accident damage repaired and never had a "rebuilt" title status resulting from 
that.

I guess you'd need to run a title history on the VIN to get the real story.

I can’t speak for other states, but in Florida, a “rebuilt” title refers to a 
car that was reassembled/repaired from a total loss and inspected by the state 
to confirm roadworthiness.

“Salvage” is the branding given to cars that have been totaled or considered a 
total loss by the insurer due to the cost of repair, but considered repairable.

My former 1996 SL500 had a rebuilt title because it was written off as a total 
loss in CA and the remains purchased by the PO and restored and then inspected 
and a rebuilt title issued by the State of Florida. I’ve owned cars with 
salvage titles, too. Not a big deal in a lot of cases, but my insurer 
(Allstate) says they won’t insure cars with rebuilt or salvage titles. Worst 
case, they won’t cover comprehensive or collision on a car with a branded title 
due to the diminished value.

Sounds like the main thing this buyer did wrong was getting emotionally 
attached to the car before he bought it. That's what causes people to overlook 
"red flags" or other signs of trouble. It's just an inanimate thing, and there 
will always be another one soon enough if you walk away.

Usually 'salvage' or 'rebuilt' means 'an insurance company owned it'.
But my ML350 was totaled by State Farm with deer hair in the cracks in 
the front bumper, the title is clean, and the CoPart inventory sticker 
on the windshield said "State Farm Comprehensive".
So apparently when it's totaled outside of collision coverage it's not 
salvage.

I do not wish to give the British company's Managing Director or Chief Purchase 
Officer, the contact of the USA Seller, because of my profit in the business, I 
intend to present you as the American vendor to the British company (That means 
that you will stand as a middle person between the British company and original 
USA Seller) so that the British company will not know the source and real cost 
of the stuff.The Original USA vendor is selling the material at the cost of 
4,370USD Per Litre, while the British company buys at the cost of 13,890USD Per 
Litre. The Company normally demands between 1000- 1500 Litres every three 
months. I will convince the British company to buy the material from you. We 
will get the material from the USA vendor and supply it to the British company 
through their agent over there in USA.

Your duty will be to get the material from the local dealer and supply to the 
British Company then we (you and I ) will share the profit made on the basis of 
70% for you and 30% for me. i dont want the British company to know the real 
cost of source of the product, likewise I don't want the USA vendor to know the 
amount we will sell the product to the British company.

[MBZ] Sealing a 116 gas tank

I am not happy with the results of vinegar cleaning. All of the big chunks are 
out but still has a coating of rust and/or varnish. It seemed to be clean at 
first but perhaps not. Anyway, I bought a kit that contains a cleaner for the 
varnish and/or grease, then a rust cleaner, then the coating. Can a coating be 
used on these tanks? It has a vent line that runs from the tank to the filler 
neck, and the vent line from top of tank to the connection at the bottom. All 
the videos and instructions I have seen talk about clearing these and are 
accessible with a screw driver or what not to make sure the coating does not 
seal up these connections. On this tank there is not a way to get to them. 
Maybe I can blow some air into the vent connection before it sets up and clear 
that one. What about the vent in the filler neck? There is not really a way to 
get air or anything else to it as far as I can tell?

I just had a thought (belatedly) on the rust issue.
How much washing soda does it take to electrically remove the rust from 
a 20 gallon tank?

Oven cleaner would do a nice job on varnished fuel residue. But I'm not 
sure how easy it would be to flush the solvent out.

The W123s are probably worth it, they were running and intact for the most 
part, but dirty. Both had rust in some of the usual places. The champagne 
colored one smokes, likely has a broken ring. The yellow one is an 85 and is by 
far the better of the two.

The 300SE blew a flex disc and the driveshaft is dinged up from what I could 
see (it was in the trunk). It looked bad enough that unless I could have seen 
the underside there’s no way I would have touched it. Interior was nice but the 
exterior needed some serious detailing work to recover. Oh, and no key, either. 
He wanted $2500, I suspect he would have let it go for $2k. No idea of prices 
on the W123s, I didn’t ask as I wasn’t interested. The W116 was a POS as were 
the R107 and the 6.9 (which he said was bad.)

A lot of mid-life projects envisioned but never executed. What’s really sad is 
that most of these were pretty nice cars when he got them. They’re crap now 
because they were neglected.

An interesting process and finished product -- and there seemed to be a
lot of completed mufflers on his shelves.

I wonder how concerned he is about safety. Most of the time it seemed he
did not shield his eyes, but at one point he had an eye shield he would
move in front of the arc. I have found I cannot take even gas welding
without using some eye protection.

It was interesting he used a pit to stand in at the beginning instead of a
work bench.

This is a randomized controlled trial, which is pretty much the strongest
