Good points.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the W170, which is far more plebeian, but still
retains some of the pre-war “swoopiness” that cars of that era did so well.

Sadly, even a beater 170 is becoming unobtanium, too, although not to the level
of what you describe.

It occurs to me that an M130 with a mirror-polished valve cover would make
a dandy powerplant for such a kit car. Plenty of show, adequate go
(particularly if it's fuel-injected and supercharged)...

[MBZ] $500?

A bit of a turd but a new water pump should get the engine sorted. Wheels and
tires are worth quite a bit. Would be fun to thrash a bit

[MBZ] Today's car adventures

2023-02-18 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
First on deck was the 05 E320 gasser that is the backup car when the
wife tears up the GL.  Mounted a balanced a new set of tires.  I have
been having to top up the coolant but could never find the leak for
sure.  I did see evidence if it coming from the upper hose connection at
the radiator.  I was thinking it was going to need the o ring or
whatever seals it up.  I used my pressure tester from HF for the first
time, pressurized the system and saw it leaking from the lower hose
connection at the water pump.  Needed to tighten the clamp a little.
Also saw it dripping from the upper hose connection at the radiator.  I
pulled on it a bit and noticed it leaked more. I then noticed it flexed
the entire neck just a bit and saw it appears to have a small crack.  It
is probably ready to let go at any time.  In other words, now both the
GL and the E320 are down. That means she is going to have to drive the
former poos CDI, which I have currently been using as my daily driver.

Next up was the 99 E300.  Pulled the drive shaft and replaced the flex
discs, center support, and transmission mount.  Tomorrow morning I will
replace the motor mounts and the leaking fuel shutoff valve.  After
replacing the injector nozzles and balancing them to the proper
pressure, the are still very noisy and should have settled in my now.
If time allows, I may pull the injectors again and pop test them and see
if a couple of them are off or something.

Hopefully,  I will have time tomorrow to get the GL up on the lift and
see what is going on with the air suspension.

[MBZ] A deer attacked my windshield

2023-02-18 Thread mitch--- via Mercedes

...on the Saturn Ion tonight.

Idiot came running full speed into my fender, tried to jump over the
car, shattered my windshield, mirror (Can't believe a TYC power mirror
assembly is under $50 shipped and taxed from Rockauto) and plastic A
pillar. Actually, it did succeed in jumping over the car, landed in the
ditch on the right side of the road after hitting the left side of my
car and getting a boost upwards from the windshield.

Any ideas on how to find a good cheap, windshield shop?

Too busy putting a wheel bearing in a ML and arranging for a Saturn
windshield to butcher a deer tomorrow.
A witness (the guy whose headlights lit up my cataracts and prevented me
from possibly seeing the deer in time) stopped and asked if he could
have it.

Those cataracts have got to go this summer.

Anybody ever hear of Catz Windshield?

I thought it was local to me, but apparently it's a chain or franchise
