Re: [MBZ] AC warmer on left side

2023-05-21 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Finally got to watching this video. Updating my readings below with
descriptions from the video:

The first column is the "parameter number", the second column the value
at start-up (after the car had been sitting parked for about 90 minutes
or so), and the third column the value after about 20 minutes of
driving. Outside air temp was about 80F.

0022C22C
0134C25C interior temp
0232C25C exterior temp
0334C43C left heater core temp
0427C27C right heater core temp
0519C03C evaporator temp
0665C92C engine coolant temp
0709 11 refrigerant pressure, bar
0838C45C refrigerant temp
0900 00 n/a
1000 40 Blower voltage
1118 19 Polution sensor
1299 99 Sun sensor
1320C18C
1441 48
1535C30
1606 06
1700 00
1840 42
1900 00
2099 99 Aux fan current

I'm not convinced that video is correct on what all these numbers are. Anyone
know of an official reference for this?

Why is the "left heater core" much warmer than the "right heater core", and the
"right heater core" didn't change temp after 20 minutes of driving?
Furthermore, parts sites only list one heater core for the vehicle, not a left
and right.

Assuming the refrigerant pressure of 11 bar is correct, that seems a little
low? That's about 160PSI. High side pressure at about 80F ambient should be
more like 200PSI or so? Evaporator temp of 3 C seems about right though. Guess
I should get my gauges on the system and see what they say.

Correction, my '15 Jetta is not a small car. It's on par with Dwight's E class,
a full size saloon car, comfortable for 4 people, even with a full sized person

I can't imagine a VW common rail diesel not being "modern" either.

The days of diesels being more economical when it comes to cars is pretty much
gone. Sure, there are the smaller VWs, for example, like Curt’s that get really
good mileage, but the more modern diesels won’t, and the cost of diesel fuel
isn’t likely to drop below gasoline again, I think.

If you were doing a “Marshall” and driving the length of PA weekly it might
make sense, but otherwise, it’s nothing more than a personal preference.
There’s no net gain from it, in fact, it might be more costly for a number of
reasons, which was Allan’s point.

[MBZ] I am chuffed— car yoga today

2023-05-21 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
I continued dismantling the ML350. Got the dash off. What a PITA. Not much left
in the interior. Harvested the passenger airbag and have to take out some other
stuff in the front structure to get the A pillar bags. I’ll do that after I
pull the engine as the steering shaft is bolted to it.

I pulled the AC compressor and power steering pump off the engine. It’s pretty
much ready to pull the engine and transmission. I’ll do that this week, it’s
all unbolted. Then I’ll pull it back up on the trailer, jack it up on blocks
then pull off the wheels and suspension and running gear then take the hulk to
the scrapper for a few $$.

Fun times.

Just nice enough to tempt the next owner to undertake a complete

It does look nice but their ask is a bit optimistic with the miles. At least
they got the description right - no “bulletproof windows”.

W140s should have only been sold in 040 Black.

The 040 Black will come back very nicely on this car from the looks of things.
