I usually stuff the hard plastic line in until it hits the bottom of the oil pan. Never had an issue on my Ford Taurus. Pulled the plug out to be sure, and it was bone dry. You plug it into a 12V outlet (cig or other) and run the wire up the A pillar and across the top then down to the cam. I put mine kinda behind the mirror but to the left enough where I can see the screen. Mine is a loose wire going to a cigarette lighter power adapter. I did a hardwired setup with the youngest boy’s 2002 E320 with both front and rear cameras probably 3 years ago. It’s still working well for him. Wasn’t difficult to do, I think I tapped off the lighter circuit for the power. I was looking for a dashcam for the ML550 a while back, and wanted something that wasn’t permanent as I might want to move it between cars. I did my due diligence and ended up buying a Nexar “Beam”. All I can say is, don’t. While it records and does GPS and movement and all that stuff, it won’t connect to anything via WiFi or Bluetooth to save it’s life. I hear it’s little sync tone when I get into the car, but if I open the app I get bupkis. It wants me to reconnect, do this, do that, etc., etc., yet it still doesn’t connect. I can pop the mini SD card, put it in my computer, and everything is recorded as I would expect, but any effort to connect short of a physical cable connection doesn’t work. I gave up trying to get it sorted. [MBZ] dashcams
I ordered a cheepcheep dashcam (well, cheeper than the other 2 I got) last week and it is supposed to delivered tomorrow. I ordered another one yesterday for $20, it looked like it had a bigger discount yesterday, and it was delivered today. Go figure. The other one is now not arriving until next week sometime. These (iZeeker) don't have SD cards in them so I got 3-32GB for $15. This newest one that arrived today looks basically to be the same as one of the others I got for like $25 with a SD card, so that tracks. Another one was a bit more but has some IR lights around the lens, but appears to be the same basic device. I plugged in the iZeeker to USB and formatted the SD card, everything powered up and I set it all OK. I guess it will work fine, it has some pretty high vid resolutions but I picked standard HD. Maybe I should go to a higher res on them but HD looks pretty good on vids I have downloaded from other cams I have. That’s 1,300 -1,400 miles a month over its life. That’s a goodly amount of driving.
