Ambitious pricing, lots of cosmetic issues, supension, tires, plus the blacked

It seems unlikely to me. There's much more money to be made with the

Re: [MBZ] won't start due to low oil?

2023-08-07 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Undetermined. That would be one of the next steps, to see if the key switch (or
whatever is responsible for powering the relay) is actually sending power to
the relay.

Unfortunately some other long-delayed household improvements have been placed
on the front burner, so my time for car repair activities is limited right now.

From the article:

But there’s another big, non-pandemic reason: newer cars are more
complicated to fix.

“Almost anything you touch now is coupled to something else, or has
sensors embedded in it, whether it’s bumpers, or rear-view mirrors,” said
K. Venkatesh Prasad, senior vice president of research and chief
innovation officer at the Center for Automotive Research.

“Everything’s tied together now on a network inside the car like a
computer. And it’s not just individual bits and pieces anymore,” said
Long.

He had a customer come into his shop recently because their car radio
wasn’t working, “and what we found out was the radio was fine. But it
needs to talk to the computer that controls the multimedia interface for
the car. That computer was bad,” he said. “And the computer was $2,000.
And then taking it all apart, getting to it, it was going to be $3,000 or
$4,000. Back in the day you could just replace your radio.”

“Back in the old days, when you would change the temperature or the floor
or vent defrost and all those things on your HVAC control head, it would
literally have these metal cables that would physically just open and
close the flaps and doors and things,” he said. “There was no electronics
involved, it was all mechanical, and they rarely ever broke. And when
they did it wasn’t that big of a deal.”

I wonder if they will ever get back to the simple, tried, and true.

Ok 722.6 that’s what I was thinking. I sent a msg have not heard back.
Connector might be buggered or the TCM was bad to begin with or fluid leak not
the trans. Likely nothing significant esp if some jackleg mech was doing the
work. I could probably get it sorted in the driveway.

It’s maybe 4hr away but could be worth the trip. Quick fix and easy flip. I
really can’t fit in those things so of no particular interest as a fun driver.

[MBZ] 2011 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually 4x4 - $16,500

2023-08-07 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
"Mercedes G56 transmission" is that OE?

Looks pretty nice but awfully high miles. Maybe not for a Cummins though.

[MBZ] 1982 300D - 176k miles - $11,900

2023-08-07 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
A nice looking car but the price is insane. Especially as the AC and door locks
don't work.

Also a bit unusual that it's parked in Neutral -- starter interlock switch
wonky?

Under-dash panel missing to the left of the center console? And cracked on the
right side?

I had people loballing me on my $400 Focus parts car. It seems that the lower
the asking price, the more the cheapskates come out of the woodwork.

That's a first gen SLK (R170), so I believe they're all 722.6.
Should be straightforward.
Ran after swapped, then quit working properly.
Either defective conductor plate, oily TCU, or installer error most
likely.

Looks decent, could be a good deal.  New key battery?  Starter relay?

we think it might be the starter. The key does not lock/unlock car or
trunk. It only works the ignition.
