First generation Volt, the original plug in hybrid. 1.4L iron block NA four cylinder plus 50 mile (when new) battery, in a beefed up first generation Cruze chassis with a hatchback body and, IIRC, standard leather interior. There was a 2nd gen with the 2nd gen Cruze chassis and aluminum block GDI 1.4 engine. And there is the Bolt, a tiny CUV with a BIG battery and no engine. As soon as I heard the Bolt name, I thought that's stupidly confusing. Volt was a stupid name from the beginning. It caused confusion, people though it was an EV when it wasn't. Bolt has been a disappointment because nobody knows what the heck it is. Again, stupid name. I like the idea of a pure series drive, it seems simpler to me but I guess it's less efficient otherwise is what the automakers would all be doing. And as far as I've heard, the planetary gearset couplings are actually pretty robust and reliable. It's a lot for an old, manual, slow diesel, and no AC further limits the appeal in most areas but I agree, if it's in really good shape, no rust, everything works, and you really wanted it that is probably fair. You could get a much more practical and more comfortable car for much less, so it's really a car for someone who specifically wants that car.
