Re: [MBZ] Success!!!

2024-06-18 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
Yeah I could feel some give on it but I couldn’t really think of any other way
to do it. The slack took some finessing too as the cable was about 2ft long to
give me room to grab the slide.

The inboard cups are inside a frame cutout and even working the loop-knotted
(what’s that called?) stiff cable in there took a bit of doing. I could barely
fit some fingers in there.

There are kits that have these slotted disk things that fit over the back of
the axle cup or spline fittings and screw on to the puller directly but there
was no room to fit that in through the frame cutouts.

Ultimately it worked out ok even with the effort so I can’t complain (much)

I'm sure the difficulty was the wire cable. It's got just enough 'give' to it

Re: [MBZ] Success!!!

2024-06-18 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
On LF the the end on the diff is a male spline so I can get at it with a metal
brush on the drill. That’s the one that was really hard. I’ll grease it up and
the new axle *should* slide right on.

The RF has a female spline fitting at the diff and the axle has the male
spline. I’ll have to see how best to get that one cleaned up.

I have to replace the R LCA too, the air strut hooks to that and the buddy
won’t come off and the torx hole on the strut tapered bolt has stripped so
that’s going to be the next challenge.

Looks fairly nice but price is on the high side.

Extra set of wheels could be handy for winter tires.
