Again, given the choice, it’s best to stick with facelift (1996-on) W140s and R129s for a lot of reasons. I have to believe that unless a W140 was a garage queen or stored away that wiring harness issues, at least for the main engine harness, have probably been addressed. I drove over to have a look. Rust issues include gaping hole in trunk spare tire well, corroded battery tray, holes in rear of both front fenders. Has been sitting in the sun so all door seals are rotted. Still, the interior is surprisingly fresh and there is no bad smell. Owner is going to get it running but front right brake caliper is seized so it must be towed away. Has been in same family for 30+ years and there is a paper trail + documents. One report of "minor" rear end damage in 2016. Having read through the Carfax it seems all the important stuff has been done and maintained, no mention of oil cooler work.
