Yeah.
As far as I can see, this is what mailinglist said?

To a point he is an inspiration. You should have seen him the first
year after the stroke. He's come a long way. I know for a fact that
when he finally stops doing the new year's show that I'll stop
watching. I just barely watch the show now.

I tune in about 15 minutes prior to midnight just to see Dick and his
wife and that's it shows over at 12:01

The junk they put on after the ball comes down isn't worthy of the
title junk. Over the past 10 years or so I watch the ball come down
then they go to the first act or commercial and I turn the whole thing
off.

Re: [MBZ] OT - Ike news

2008-09-20 Thread mailinglist

North of Houston in Conroe. We Live Just south of the Lake and we are just
slightly protected by the Dam itself. Only had one pine lean on the house
and crush the eves. Cost $4,500 and a crew of guys and 3 hours to get it
off. Some trees are on houses that require a crane to get them off. We
were w/out Power until today. The Power crews from all over the nation are
real troopers and we were told 4 weeks and we got power back in about a
   week.
Overall I lost 3 elm trees that just were uprooted, one maple snapped off 8'
off the ground. Two pines with the tops snapped out of them and the one
Pine against the house along with an Ironwood that was just mangled to the
point I had to take it down.
I've heard horror stories of people right off the lake where there was no
cover at all and down in the woodlands.
There was a NY Times Article that mentioned if the eye went 20 to 25 miles
further west it would have been the worst natural disaster in American
   history.
Sad to say everyone in the know is admitting that the body count down in
Galveston is very very low because most of the people who decided to stay on
the west end of the Island were swept out to sea. They may not have a count
for weeks or months d/t people have to show up as "missing" for a certain
time before being declared "Missing presumed dead". Sad thing is that the
Galveston Mayor said that this would be as bad as the 1900 Galveston
Hurricane but still 40% of the island population stayed. Crazy. I remember
the last few hours before the storm the mayor said "...if you stay on the
west end you will die." Even the the command center in Galveston had all
the windows smashed out and the first responders were worried they'd become
victims themselves! The Legendary Balinese Room that went 600 Feet into the
Gulf of Mexico is completely gone. Not even the Pier is left...
One creepy thing... the memorial to the 1900 Hurricane is made out of
concrete and bronze was severely mangled... that is just creepy and a
testament to the storm's full power that hit Galveston.
