I try to keep carbs down to a reasonable level. One way that works for me is to
think of veggies. An example is cauliflower rice. I get the big bag of this
fresh at Costco. I use this instead of rice for a stir fry. It has the texture
of rice and works well to absorb a sauce or gravy. I've lost about 35 lbs.
without going crazy just by cutting down on carbs and making sure I have a big
portion of veggies with dinner to fill me up. Exercise bike and walks help too.

So I have realized I am probably at least 40lbs overweight. Sunday night I
thought I might be having a heart attack so went to the er where everything
came back good. My blood pressure was way too high at about 180/80 when I came
in but was down to about 150/80. They did not seem concerned. So they sent me
to get monitor put on that I wore for the last 2 days. Did not really have any
problems so I don't except they will get anything off that. I think I may have
just had a panic attack or something. Thinking about being too fat, thinking
about a coworker who is my age who had a heart attack last year, and thinking
about how I am already probably at risk due to my father who has heart problems
and my grandfather had heart problems.  I also think it could have something to
do with the Cpap. Since I have started using it I seem to sometimes had a weird
feeling almost like a lung issue or just muscular soreness in my diaphragm.

I have high cholesterol and the dr had me on a statin which I am really not
sure about. I have not taken in for about 6 months because the refills ran out
and they won't refill them until I come can in. Earliest appointment is next
month, which I set several months ago.

So anyway I have decided to cut out all sugar and most cards, trying to stay
around 20 carbs a day but at least under 50. Maybe a sort of extreme keto or
whatever they call it diet. Anybody btdt?

[MBZ] 1983 Mercedes 300D Hard Starting / AC Issue.

2011-08-24 Thread rkmercedes

Hi All,

Part 1 - Last week I had some trouble with my 1983 300D, it would start as
usual but run a little rough (popping like it was having trouble getting air).
After a few minutes it would smooth out but run a little hotter than usual. A
few days later the ac compressor started making noise, the clutch stopped
engaging and the air blew warm.

I am in the process of deciding whether to replace the compressor now or next
spring.

Part 2 - Yesterday it took me 10 minutes to start the car, I ran the battery
down and even needed a jump. Black smoke was coming out of the exhaust while I
was chanking the engine. The glow plug light appears normal going out after a
few seconds. Eventually it started , ran rough for a couple of minutes than
ran normal. This morning the same exact issue with extremely hard starting.

Here are my questions:

Could the ac compressor issue be related to the hard starting? I disconnected
the wires to the compressor but I still hear a squeaking noise from it
occasionally. Should I remove the belt from the compressor to lighten the
drag on the engine if the compressor is hanging up? Could that have anything
to do with the hard starting?

If these issues are unrelated any suggestions on troubleshooting would be
greatly appreciated!

Sincerely

 Bob

Re: [MBZ] 1983 Mercedes 300D Hard Starting / AC Issue.

2011-08-24 Thread rkmercedes
As suggested I cut the belt and found that the ac compressor did not turn by
hand. The car started immediately..one problem solved! If the compressor
is seized does that usually mean the freon is contaminated with metal
fragments? Any further suggestions or tests are welcome.

Yes. Take the AC belt off (easiest and quickest way is with a knife).

Re: [MBZ] Classic center is snobbish?

2011-08-09 Thread rkmercedes
I had nothing but positive experiences with the MB Classic Center too! A few
years ago I needed a small rubber grommet for the radiator on my 1983 300D.
They not only took the time to locate it and email me pictures to verify the
part was correct, they sent it FedEx (no charge).

I disagree; I've dealt with a fellow from the MB Classic Center on two
different occasions and have had good experiences both times.

[MBZ] 1983 300D - Ignition switch issue / starter keeps turning after car starts! Help!

2011-05-03 Thread rkmercedes

Hi all,

My 1983 MB 300D (174K) has been having ignition switch issues for over
a year. It would occasionally (mostly warm weather?) make a clicking noise but
not start the car. I would keep turning the key on and off and it would
eventually start.

When it first happened I checked all the cables, replaced the starter, battery
and the problem still existed periodically. A suggestion was made that it
might be the ignition switch so I connected a remote starter in the glove box
bypassing the ignition switch. That worked great for the few times it wouldn't
start, maybe once every few weeks. I would just put the ignition switch in the
on position and press the remote starter button and I was on my way.

The last couple of days it needed the remote starter every time I attempted to
start the car (never did that before). Today it happened again and I did the
usual routine but now the car starts but the starter will not stop cranking.
The cranking stopped as soon as I put it in drive or reverse but starts again
when it is put back in neutral or park. Does this mean it's time to finally
replace the ignition switch or could it be something else? Is it a big job or
big money? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Bob K

[MBZ] 1983 300D - Glow Plug Light Problem

2006-03-07 Thread RKMERCEDES
Good Morning,

On my way to work this morning I had a problem starting my car and
noticed the glow plug light did not come on. I turned the key on and off
several
times and the glow plug light came on every 3rd or 4th time. The car finally
started and I made it to work on time. I never had any issues like this
before.

Is this symptomatic of bad glow plugs or should I look at something else?
  Thanks in advance!

[MBZ] 1988 190E Idle Speed Problem

2006-03-03 Thread RKMERCEDES

Hi,

Lately the idle speed on my son's 1988 190E has been very erratic. It
usually runs around 800 but for no reason sometimes goes as high as 2500 and
gets stuck there. If the gas pedal is hit a couple of times it usually goes
down to normal. Occasionally when hitting the gas pedal does not work he has
to shut the car off and start it again. It happened with both a warm and
cold engine.

I tried cleaning the linkage and lubricating but it still happened. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

[MBZ] 1983 300D AC/Heat/Defrost Fan Problem- Help

2005-11-01 Thread RKMERCEDES
Hi all,

When I start up in the morning the heat/ac/defrost fan will not come
on for
about 15 minutes. It finally comes on and works fine for the rest of the
day.
It happened once or twice during the summer with the AC, but now it happened
four days straight when I started to need heat and defrost. The fan does not
turn on even in the defrost mode until approximately 15 minutes.

One suggestion was to check the relay (maybe it's sticking). I
haven't tried that yet. Anyone have a similar problem or could make some
suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
