Re: [MBZ] runaway 300SDL, diesels CAN smoke the tires

2005-09-28 Thread shustew
Hate it when that happens.
bill s

So Regina calls and says that the SDL all the sudden started
accelerating out of control. So I head back to check out the situation.
Apparantly the linkage to the IP broke(looks like plastic) and stuck
the IP to full open throttle. I mean FULL open. So I start it up, slam
it into reverse as quick as I can before it revs up too high, BAMM,
smoking tires, then to drive, smokes the tires for a block or 2 it
seems. Anyways, got it home, shut off engine as I was turning into
driveway. By the time I got back home(only a couple of miles) brakes
sure were smoking from trying to bring the speed down. Next I will try
some JB weld or something to fix that linkage. Hope I dont have to pull
the manifold.

My manual (94S350) states 1 minuet cool down mandatory even if you are
working on it in the garage. They spin at over 100k rpm & you want to

I asked Marshall about this a while ago. cool downs
are for gas engines with turbos as they get much
hotter. Only on a long trip, hot weather, etc would a
little cool down be recommneded IF using dino oil. If
using synthetic (say Mobil 1 :-) ), it will never cook
off, so no cool downs necessary.

I am sure Marshall will correct this if I have
misrepresented what he said.

Ned,

FINALLY!! Someone who sees my point of view and has"been there, done that"
as far as insurance goes. Really unfair to the small businessman.
Another insurance rip off I found out about while talking to my agent the
other day about auto insurance is the fact that your auto insurance rates
are partly based on your credit history. Agent states that "because of
studies that say people with a lower credit rating have a higher accident
record" they can get away with this. I don't have credit, nor do i want
it.I pay CASH and get SCREWED EVERY TIME I TURN AROUND Pretty sad
when I have to pay more for insurance because I have never financed
anything through a bank! By the way, i have NO tickets on my insurance
record and NO accidents either but yet a friend of mine pays the same
amount for insurance as I(for the exact same coverage) after having several
speeding tickets and 3 DUI's..The agents explanation"he has a
better credit rating than you".
Might as well burn all of my cash now and get a bank loan so I can pay
lots of interest on money that I would have in my pocket if I weren't
paying loan payments.
THEN, maybe I could get a fair price The small businessman hardly has
a chance in this credit based economy without credit. Hard to run a cash
business.

Mmm
Well my wife knows the answer to this It's about 60 parts supreme
gas, and 8 parts diesel. Or fill it up with gas once you hit the
reserve light.
In fact you *can* run about 20 miles on this mixture, until reaching
benz dealer with complaint about *rough* running & bad idling...
Amazing, Bill for disposal, cleaning, checking, car rental, tossing
the gas so far has reached $220 USA.

Still I drove it back home and everything seemed fine, so any
thoughts on pre-chamber cracks, etc etc...

PS, my teenager distracted her at the gas station and she forgot

Hola amigos
I have a air conditioning mystery with my 1982 380SEL. Replaced the
condenser and compressor, both only lasted 472,000 miles. Interesting that
the Delco Morraine OE unit only lasted 472,000 miles, same unit as used on
new GM products in the 80´s. The blower motor works at all three speeds,
the button for the automatic temp control system works. The temp control
wheel works OK. The problem is when the air flow is slow or non exitant.
Driving on the open road with a constant air flow the air conditioning
works all day long, the problem is when the air flow is cut down, stopped,
in traffic, or when you really need the air. The engine temp is consistent
at 80C, never a under the hood temp too high, only when stopped or low air
flow. When the temp goes up the electric fan kicks in at the appropriate
temp. The mystery is why only does the blower quit working when the air
flow is low or non existent?

Gracias amigos

As an aside to the shipping costs, Griots has opened a warehouse closer to
the east coast for that exact reason. If you check on shipping again (since
Jan
05) it should be much lower now. For those of us who live 4 miles from
their

I got the Griots wheel package. Really a great product. they include
everything you need to clean and paint (after you remove the old paint)
alloys. I spent $85 ($58 for the package and the rest shipping)

There is a zinc primer, then the color, then clear. Enough rattle can
paint to do all four. Also included is the cleaner/prep and a
degreaser. The instruction sheet is professionally printed and other
glossy four color sales stuff. As a bonus I got a free bottle of speed
shine.

When I did my wheels I decided to use the set the blaster pitted by
using Garnet sand, instead of glass or walnut to remove paint. For
those I chose the auto parts store rattle can method. Took a large
primer can, two color cans and two clear coats May have cost all of $20
