Take a look at this if you think $40K is high:

These are routinely selling for this much or more. There have been several
that have sold for $50K and $60K. I agree its crazy. But, the market is so
insanely hot for these right now. The Wagonmaster Pedigree (if true) will
help the price go higher.

I want one of these. But, I will never be willing to pay $40K or more.

Theres a rabid following for those but this one seems over the top. Theres some
outfit that buys low mile units like this one, refurbishes them to like new and
they sell for this kind of money but a survivor, I dunno...
They are real body on frame Jeeps with offroad cred but awful hard on gas.

Re: [MBZ] '88 Jeep Wagoneer on BAT

2017-06-12 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
Those were the cars of swells back then, urban assault vehicles of the
day for Mipsy to take the chirruns to soccer practice and her tennis
lessons.

I recall once being out at Great Point on Nantucket, which is like 7 or
10 miles or something out on the beach/sand tracks, you have to be
prepared for eventualities because a tow back to civilization can cost
big money. We were out there in my 87 Blazer, a full-size beast, very
agricultural machine. I always took tools, boards, shovels, compressor,
tow straps, gas can, etc. None of that took up much room but it was
essential. We were out there for the day and good part of the evening,
fishing, grilling, etc. Some swell in his yuppy clothes with Mipsy and
the kids in their preppy dress haul up in one of those and park maybe
100ft away, unload their picnic hampers, etc. spread out the LLBean
blankets and such and proceed to do their thing, eat some brie and stuff
they bought at the high-end deli or got the cook to make something.
They stay a coupla hours then load up and get ready to head out. I
don't know if the guy didn't know how to use the vehicle or what, didn't
engage 4WD or something, but in about 10 seconds he was mired up to the
axles in the soft sand. He gets out and stares at the situation for
awhile, he and Mipsy start trying to dig out sand with their hands which
was not going anywhere. I had a beer while watching this spectacle, my
wife finally tells me I need to go help the guy. So I wander over and
chat with him a bit, it is is clear he is some Nooyawk yuppy banker
asshole or something who had no fnclue as to what he was doing, but
wanted to do it for the experience to tell all his nooyawk ahole buds
back at the bank how much cooler he was than them. And get some use out
of the expensive Jeep he bought for Mipsy. I asked him if he had a
shovel (no), boards (no), had aired down his tars (??huh?), etc. etc.
By this time he was feeling properly chastised so I says come with me,
he takes off his Topsiders and follows me to the truck. I pull out the
shovels (those little folding military entrenching tools, amazingly
handy, you can make a hoe, shovel, pick, etc.) and some boards, toss
them on the sand and say "Here ya go." He stands there and looks at
them then finally says, "What do I do with him." By this time I am
actually starting to feel a bit sorry for his sorry ass, so I open up a
shovel and explain "you dig out the sand with this in front of the
wheels and under the truck" then put these boards under your wheels and
try to drive out of the holes you just dug." So he totes the stuff
over, he and Mipsy start kinda halfassedly digging. I crack another
beer and watch this for awhile, finally my wife is laughing and saying
you really need to go help the guy. I was rather enjoying the show but
my better self overtook me so I take him a beer and ask if he needs any
help, by this time he would have paid me good money to solve his
problem. He also really liked the beer, I think they had just brought
some chardonnay or something to sip, WTF kind of dude does that? I
think my daughter even came over to play with the kids or something to
give Mipsy a break. So anyway after awhile we get the sand dug out, the
boards under the tars (which I aired down to 8psi), I tell him to give
it a go. Of course he did not put it in 4WD (I have no idea how he
managed to get out there like that, but there you go), I think that
vehicle had manual hubs, so he promptly dug the rear into the sand
again, which we then proceeded to dig out again. By this time Mipsy was
in a total state of pissoff at the guy, probably missing her spa
appointment or something, so by then I was actually feeling sorry for
him, what little manhood he had was now completely eliminated. Totally
emasculated. So then with my expert instruction (including showing how
to actually engage 4WD), and I might have put a tow strap on my truck to
help pull him out, I don't recall, and another beer or two I finally get
him out of the hole. He actually wanted to give me some money, I got
all offended and told him no man this is how things work out here,
everyone helps out, and tell him DO NOT STOP UNTIL YOU GET BACK so he
wouldn't mire down again. We did not see the vehicle on our way back
late that night, so I am guessing he made it, and maybe learned some
man-lessons in the experience. Nooyawkers, Lawnguylanduhs, what a
seriously sorry lot.

I'm pretty sure that's the same body/chassis the Wagoneer had in the 1960s.
