You might have to do some searching for the discussion thread, but you should

Hey Dave, being a VW owner I seem to recall there was something else that
causes a false reading for the glow plug fault you describe. I remember reading
it in a website called VWVortex. They have a discussion site for almost all
VW's The false readings on Vag-Coms seems to be a common normality with alot of

Re: [MBZ] [OT & Oly, WA only] '03 TDI JETTA compatible VAG COM

2005-09-06 Thread David Goldsmith
The full story: very shortly after getting my car back
from Dr. Dan's last Thurs., the "Check Engine" light
came on, so I quickly brought it back to him. His
VAG-COM returned a glow plug #3 problem, which he
reported is a very common problem on that car. But
upon checking it (removing it and sending a current
through it), it appeared to be working fine (it glowed
orange-red), so he put it back in, reset my onboard
diagnostic computer, and sent me on my merry way. I
got back to Oly without the check engine light
reawakening, but the next day my wife reports that
it's lit again. I was going to take the car (my
wife's) back to Dr. Dan's today, but she needed it
down in Oly, so I thought I'd continue to try to find
someone down in Oly I could prevail upon to see if
it's still complaining about GP3 before taking it back
to Dan's, probably tomorrow. Thanks!

Did you trip a fault code? If I had kept my '96 Passat, I'd of picked
up the VAG-COM myself. I wanted to bypass the EGR to avoid coking up
the intake, which requires that the computer be tricked into accepting
this as normal operation. Good luck.
