[MBZ] 123 fakebook group

2022-07-06 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
https://www.facebook.com/groups/W123NA/permalink/5251843014882395/

I realize some may find this distasteful, but I feel compelled to post anyway.

Lots of new people are coming into W123 circles, and histories of certain
products - but also certain people doing business in our world - get lost very
easily on Facebook. Spencer Lerman of Lerms Customs was removed from this
group earlier this year after repeated bad transactions with members spanning
over 6 months time. Myself and several of my peers had consistently given him
help and information in the interest of seeing him grow and succeed, but when
the sh!& hit the fan he was not sympathetic whatsoever to our decision and
cleared a wide path with his words. Since then, he's started a new
venture: BenzPartz. Today I see him canvassing with a post about a big road
trip, offering "repairs along the way" and having access to "any part needed".
To anyone considering doing business with him, just know that these claims
are... optimistic, at best, and there's a history of having a sub-par knowledge
of differences in parts and trying to function "above his pay grade" when it
comes to diagnosis and repair on the cars. He made a habit of going out on
limbs like this when he was on our group, and how he's going forward on social
media doesn't indicate his tune has changed.

To clarify: I'm not trying to limit any competition that may come from Spencer.
If he gets his game together enough to really compete with me, or even begins
overshadowing me - I'll be losing fair and square, and I try to always be ready
to accept a time when that can happen. My interest is in keeping everything
"out in the daylight" if you will, and preventing any horror stories from the
convergence of a W123 owner and a business-person whose foremost concern isn't
doing right by the customer.

IIRC, 8-9 of the adjusters on my OM617 stay put and 1-2 of them were a
little fiddly without the holding spanner.
It wasn't a big deal, but if I did it daily, I'd want all 3 wrenches.

Re: [MBZ] 123 fakebook

2022-01-15 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Yep, made the valve adjustment bent wrenches with a couple of cheap wrenches, I
think they are "Companion" brand from the store formerly known as Sears. Cheap
wrenches are thiner and easier to bend.

If you work on cars at all you need a blowtorch. Does not need to be the full
oxy-acetylene rig, just a standard hardware store propane torch will be hot
enough.

Those stupid bent wrench sets are not really going to work properly.
You don't get the 3rd holder wrench that keeps the valve from spinning.

Yes. I just am not sure how it is possible to supposedly work on cars for a
living when your skill set is obviously slightly above beginner diy level.

Re: [MBZ] 123 fakebook checkin

2019-10-13 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
This has to be a global sort of mindset.

Look on eBay for parts, especially for the older cars. My favorite is trunk
tristars for cars like the W110/111 and others - brand new from the dealer for
under $50. People selling used ones on eBay for over $100.

I just don’t get it. There must be a market or these idiots (?) wouldn’t be
listing them.
