Re: [MBZ] 126 Front Seat Sag Fix
Tony Yes-pads are now about 90-100, frames about 300. Sorry I wasn't clear-on this. On this last one, I got an extra seat bottom from the passenger's side that I got the car seller to throw in for free. -But since I sometimes spend 3-4 hours a day in mine, I always regarded it as worthwhile, but YMMV. In fact I am thinking of advertising my rusty 240D as a totally rebuilt seat for 500.00, car is thrown in free. I just checked my records-in 2002 a frame was 120.00 Dwight Dwight E. Giles, Jr. 1978 240D 4 speed. 218K miles. 1979 240D- auto -250K + miles FOR SALE 1990 300D 2.5t 160K miles. Yes, I have tired various kinds of stuffing over the years on 123 seat bottoms . Only real fix is new spring frame-and since you are at it put a new pad on -only about 90 dollars from Rusty. If the steel spring in the seat is broken, it will tilt to one side until you take the seat apart and patch or replace the spring. Re: [MBZ] 126 Front Seat Sag Fix
There are a bunch of guerilla approaches to this, but most of them use some sort of foam jammed in the seat to juice it up. As for the seat back, you're going to have a lump (or lumps) where ever you put anything unless you do it between the sisal pad and the springs... I have also seen people stuff things into the springs themselves to prop up the seat, rather than put things in between the springs and pad.. [MBZ] 126 Front Seat Sag Fix
I recall several previous posts about fixing sagging 126 front seats by wedging a piece of stiff foam in the spring assembly. My wife complained about excessive sag in the front right seat for some time and used a foam wedge (thick part aft) in the seat to relieve back pain. I considered replacing seat pad but that didn't seem to have much to do with the sag in the back of the seat. Just now, I cut two pieces (about 10 in long) from a foam "swimming pool noodle" and wedged them underneath the seat (from back) on each side between the top spring (seating surface) and the "V" where the spring turns in on each side. No feedback from wife yet but it felt firmer to me. Question: Is this how others have done this or are there other/better ways?
