I second Jaime. Plastic keys from the dealer are cheap (though I think

make two trips to the dealer, one to order and one to pick up.

2014-03-11 Thread Rich Thomas
I called this guy that is like 30 or 40 miles away, at the
recommendation of a local locksmith who has a truck he drives around.
The guy tells me he has the blanks and machine to make these keys, $30,
knew exactly what I was talking about. He referenced laser cutter, so
maybe he has a laser cutter machine to make a copy. The driving guy
said the machine was too big for his truck so he did not have one, but
the guy I was to call had one, so maybe that is what they have. I guess
he will make a copy not an original like MB would, so I should
probably drive that car to make sure it works. I need to get some
plywood up that way too, not sure how I can work that unless I drive my
truck and just have faith the copy will work.

He was talkin goober, which I had a real hahd time unnastandin, so I was
not entirely sure what he was saying. It was worse than Gullah.

of a local locksmith who has a truck he drives around. The guy tells me he
has the blanks and machine to make these keys, $30, knew exactly what I was
talking about. He referenced laser cutter, so maybe he has a laser cutter
machine to make a copy. The driving guy said the machine was too big for
his truck so he did not have one, but the guy I was to call had one, so
maybe that is what they have. I guess he will make a copy not an
original like MB would, so I should probably drive that car to make sure
it works. I need to get some plywood up that way too, not sure how I can
work that unless I drive my truck and just have faith the copy will work.

He was talkin goober, which I had a real hahd time unnastandin, so I was
not entirely sure what he was saying. It was worse than Gullah.

I got mine from a dealer. They order it according to the VIN (assuming
original keying) and it takes a while. My 79 TD indeed had a different
(conventional) kind of key/lock compared to the SD. I can't say what a
locksmith might be able to do.

 Subject: [MBZ] 126 key

I need to get another key for the 300SD. Years ago I got one made at
the locksmith for the 79 TD but it is flat key, the SD has that ridge
down the middle. Can a locksmith get a blank for one like that and make
a duplicate, or is it a dealer-only key?
