Same with our '81 240D. My Dad was too creative to just buy a new ignition
switch, so he wired in a doorbell button to fire the starter. When we got
the car, my kids (4th generation to drive the car) loved that button so
much that they wouldn't let me fix the ignition switch - had to replace the
doorbell switch when it's contacts burned.
