[MBZ] 1983 300d Windshield wipers only work on high
Hello- 1983 Mercedes 300d - recently resurrected with a new rear right lower control arm and new shocks all around - rides pretty nice - New problem. The wipers only work on high - and stop where ever you turn them off. Today I noticed switching the brights on and off - they start to work on low sometimes and when I have them set on low and use the turn signals they work - seems like the switch. Any way to repair one? Do you have to remove the steering wheel to remove the switch? Help and suggestions appreciated. Sounds like the stalk (aka multi-switch). It can probably be fixed with an electronics cleaning spray like Deoxit. You don't need to remove it, but the job is easier if you do. The end of the stalk is a cap that can be pried off carefully (so you don't mar the plastic) and then it comes apart. Be careful not to lose any parts. Clean all the contacts inside, normal operation should be restored. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '95 E300, '87 300TD, '73 Balboa 20 Peter Hertzing phertz...@gmail.com wrote: Hello- 1983 Mercedes 300d - recently resurrected with a new rear right lower control arm and new shocks all around - rides pretty nice - New problem. Re: [MBZ] 1983 300d Windshield wipers only work on high
Don't have to remove the steering wheel, there are screws at the base of the stalk, but fishing the connector out and back in again is a pain. Once you get the multi-pin connector loose (underside of dash, remove kick panel), tie a string or wire to it before you pull the stalk off and the wire bundle with connector out, so that you have a prayer of getting it back in without taking the dash out. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '95 E300, '87 300TD, '73 Balboa 20 Peter Hertzing phertz...@gmail.com wrote: Hello- 1983 Mercedes 300d - recently resurrected with a new rear right lower control arm and new shocks all around - rides pretty nice - New problem. wipers only work on high - and stop where ever you turn them off. The 450 SL had that problem, turns out somebody had kicked the relay in half, it's over the gas pedal on that car. A little glue and solder and it was good as new. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
