If I recall some words from Marshall Booth isn't seepage from the head gasket at #1 cylinder a possible cause? Left unattended for too long this was thought to contribute to rod bending. Of course check and make sure the simple things such as the reservoir cap checks out! Yes, I think so. the dreaded # 1 cyl seep is my greatest fear. the simple things such as the reservoir cap checks out! If the radiator cap won't hold pressure it'll escape out the overflow tube to the ground. Any chance you fixed the leak and now you're just topping it off as the air burps out? Alternately, there are freeze plugs in the block on that side, aren't there? Though I haven't found it yet, car supposedly has overflow tank in fender; can't find where an overflow tube dumps.
