What is the yellow 3m adhesive for trim and stuff? I need to buy some but can't 
remember which was the right one.

No.

The yellow is for weatherstripping.

What do you want it for?  That’s what dictates which one to get.

8088 is the light duty stuff, 8089 heavier, 8090 heaviest.

That’s the spray contact cement such as one would use for interior panels, hood 
pads, etc.

Then you need the foam double sided tape.  Advance Auto carries it in the 
stores, and the roll will last forever.

What is the proper way to seal exterior trim strip clips on a w123 so that
they do not leak water through into the car? Mine are leaking in. Is there
a gasket or a sealant?

These are the red plastic sockets?  They're probably old and tired, they
should seal by themselves.

Red berries!  Yes, they are self-sealing.  Time to replace them.  You can buy 
them relatively cheap from places like AutohausAZ.  The dealer will hose you on 
them.
