Re: [MBZ] 48.5mpg
I have not really researched it yet but like I mentioned I hope it can be cleaned up like the gassers. In any case I was aware of it and knew I would have to deal with it. I have it a few hard acceleration runs this evening and it actually seems like it lightened up a little. I kind of like the rolling coal effect. What is interesting is that MBZ claimed 6.6 seconds 0-60 for that car, which is about 2/3 of a second better than my M112 4Matic wagon. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

If it makes serious smoke under hard acceleration, the EGR is stuck open. Or at least not closing properly. Had this issue on the Volvo TD, very serious smoke. Plated off the EGR on that one, it really only needed the actuator rod cleaned so it closed properly (and all the goop cleaned out from using dino oil in it). In your case you will have to fix it, which is probably why the car went for cheap. It will run better when it's working -- unlike gasoline cars, max EGR is just above idle and drops as the fuel comes on. If it doesn't close under acceleration, you don't have enough oxygen for the fuel going in and it smokes badly. Wide open at idle doesn't have much effect as you aren't putting very much fuel in. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

The CEL is a known issue with the EGR. The EGRs screw up as they age and stop working or get clogged. You can’t disconnect them without it throwing a CEL, which is why it’s doing it. Connect it back up and the car will run like garbage. There’s a guy in the UK who sells a little bypass box of some sort that you wire into the EGR harness that fools the car into thinking the EGR is working. That’s the only fix. I can’t recall if the CEL happens if the intake manifold “flappers” servo acts up, too. I believe the one on this car may be disconnected or the link missing. As long as the flaps are open you’re good. If they get stuck in the closed position it will run poorly. You got a hell of a deal, buddy. And a nice vacation, too. -D > On Aug 3, 2020, at 7:25 PM, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > wrote: > > When I get home I need to work on the check engine light, and motor mounts. > It does not seem like I has as much power as what I figure it should although > it does fine.
