There were 220 and 230 in the /8 body (114/115) I think this is a
114. the 300Ds are 115 I think the 220s were dropped in the US by

It could also be a RTW car, that was later brought into the USA.

Not all 220s were in 111 bodies. There were Pontons, unimogs,
Heckflosse, and /8, 123 and probably more in various parts of the

M180 6 cyl and I think there were also 4 cyl 220 engines. I am not

I know you have some 123 wagons, so I hope you are being funny!

I would really like to have a bunch of the old MB's. Obviously any of the
190SL, 300SL, or the 280SL (with Pagoda roof), the 280 SE Cabriolet, and many
others. A 300SEL 6.3 and any 600 (W100) would be a spectacular addition to any
MB collection! In the future I think the 450SEL 6.9 will start to increase in
value quickly, and I think 20 years from now we will be seeing the 124 500E
(the ones made in cooperation with Porsche) go for big dollars!

I fail to see the charm in the early 70s 220 or 250 sedans. The MB Tex and
ghastly black dashes stink over time, probably due to a stale cigarette smoke.
The body style is boxy and inelegant. They drive OK and are easy to work on,

Re: [MBZ] 71 220 Poor car

2015-02-03 Thread Donald Snook via Mercedes
When I was in college, I worked a few days a week as a lot boy at a used car
lot. In the back lot, they had an old 69 or 70 Buick Electra 225. A real
land barge. I asked one day if I should wash it. The old man told me he would
just as soon get rid of the car, but he said he would sell it for $60. I
have no idea how he came up with that number. But, I called a few friends at
School and 3 of us put up $20 each and bought the car. It actually started
and the tires held air. So, we bought it just to take it out to one of the
guys parents farm. We crashed it into trees, tried to tear out the
transmission by slamming it into reverse at 40 mph, we just had a demolition
derby with it. Finally, we accidentally busted the radiator and our fun was
over. We took the D tag off it and left it in the field. It was definitely
$20 worth of fun. I think my friend's dad rescued the car, fixed a few things
on it and sold it for $400-500.

I bet if somebody really wanted it, the seller would take $500 cash. If I had
the room and the time, I might buy it for $250. But, that car could be a money
pit. Its probably worth parting it out.

If the jack points aren't rusty, it actually looks pretty solid. Could be a
decent project car if everything is there.

The strange gray band of paint around the bottom is weird, though.

Price is pretty optimistic considering it's a trailer car.

I am always amazed by that too. There was a really nice S Class on ebay last
week. The car was parked outside and it must have snowed -- a lot. They
didn't bother to clear the snow off the car. They just turned on the wipers.

One would think that a lot of the mess one sees on the paint of that car would
wash off.

That will not come back. Bird poop has eaten away at the paint. Tires are
rotted. Better to have hosed it off, put worn out tires on the rims, spray
