I have an '82 300SD with 304k miles. At 75 mph, I average 27 mpg. 25 in town. 23.5 with two boats on the roof rack, heading into a stiff westerly at 75. I am no feather-foot, either.
The previous owner reported getting as high as 32 during the 55 mph speed limit days. 27 is bang on, no boast. That car is a duplicate of mine save for the year. I'd buy it in a minute if it is as good as it looks.
