Re: [MBZ] A new type of fire extinguisher
I remember about 15 years ago, or maybe a bit more, an old Prof at UF was working on something like that including a hand grenade smoke bomb thing for use by firemen who would just pull the pin and throw it into a burning room and the smoke of whatever chemical would put out the fire. Wonder if this came from that idea. Dr. Green, if I recall right, was in his early 20's in the Pacific area during WWII as a navigator with the Army Air Force. While doing that he came up with the first iteration of the E2 flight calculator for the bombers to use. He once showed me the originals that he made. A really interesting character sharp as a tack for all his age at the time. MG Dan Penoff via Mercedes wrote: That’s what I was thinking. It sure looks like one when they use it. There was some mention of the chemical(s) used in it on their web site. -D On Mar 28, 2020, at 12:12 PM, Jim Cathey via Mercedes wrote: It's a flare, essentially, is it not? Re: [MBZ] A new type of fire extinguisher
No, it's potassium ions and such that bind to the oxygen in the area of the fire. I still don't understand how it can do that and still be no problem to breathe. Like a flair, you can't turn it off once you start it, unlike a traditional fire extinguisher, which is why (besides the price) I won't be getting one. I wonder if the primary product isn't carbon dioxide or some other inert gas that displaces the oxygen. - Max Charleston SC On Sat, Mar 28, 2020 at 12:15 PM Dan Penoff via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > That’s what I was thinking. Re: [MBZ] A new type of fire extinguisher
Agreed. However, if you’ve ever dealt with the aftermath of a dry powder extinguisher being used, it’s something to consider. That stuff is super corrosive and will destroy softer metals like aluminum the minute there’s any moisture present. -D > On Mar 28, 2020, at 11:58 AM, Meade Dillon via Mercedes > wrote: > > Looks like it takes at least one more step to activate than a traditional > fire extinguisher. > > Also takes 2 seconds after completing the activation process before the > extinguisher is ready to go. > > Lastly, in the video, the "fireman" had to get REALLY close to the fire to > put it out. > > Although it is intriguing, I think I'll keep my traditional extinguishers. > - > Max > Charleston SC > > > On Fri, Mar 27, 2020 at 3:47 PM Craig via Mercedes > wrote: > >> Ran across this just now: >> >> https://elementfire.com/ >> >> A new type of fire extinguisher which is up to 80% smaller than a >> traditional fire extinguisher and has 5 times the discharge time. >> >> >> Craig >> >> ___ >> http://www.okiebenz.com >> >> To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ >> >> To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: >> http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com >> >> > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] A new type of fire extinguisher
Looks like it takes at least one more step to activate than a traditional fire extinguisher. Also takes 2 seconds after completing the activation process before the extinguisher is ready to go. Lastly, in the video, the "fireman" had to get REALLY close to the fire to put it out. Although it is intriguing, I think I'll keep my traditional extinguishers. - Max Charleston SC On Fri, Mar 27, 2020 at 3:47 PM Craig via Mercedes wrote: > Ran across this just now: > > https://elementfire.com/ > > A new type of fire extinguisher which is up to 80% smaller than a > traditional fire extinguisher and has 5 times the discharge time. > > > Craig > > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
