[MBZ] Bimby / injector bypass hoses
Bought a length of injector bypass hoses from Rusty a while back -- maybe a year ago. Have replaced "factory" hose on both of my diesels (VW & Benz). EVERY LINE HAS LEAKED and has had to be replaced. I am getting at the most six months out of a section before it cracks and leaks. The frustrating part here is that neither car was leaking before the replacement -- I was doing preventative maintenance. Now, this isn't Rusty-bashing. It is more of a question. Rusty certainly doesn't manufacture the hose. The hoses are cracking at the nipple. Am I doing something wrong in the install? I just put the hose ends on and shut the hood. Is there a special "nipple grease" or something that I am not using? Maybe a bad run of hose at the factory? -- LT Don http://don.homelinux.net/~don/ Make a small loan, Make a big difference - Kiva.org ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Bimby / injector bypass hoses
How are you removing the old ones? If you have induced any rough edges on the injector, that will happen (using knives or being too aggressive with pliers can do that). The other possibility is you have the wrong hose, but don't expect Rusty sent you the wrong one. Re: [MBZ] Bimby / injector bypass hoses
Were the old hoses hard? I've seen them break like glass with age, and if any remains on the nipple, it will simply slice the new hose and cause it to "crack". Clean off the nipples on the injectors -- likely there is some old hose material on there. I put them on by grasping the hose with a pair of needle nosed pliers just high enough not to hit the top of the nipple, and pushing them straight down. Too much "stretch" going on seems to cause them to simply split. Re: [MBZ] Bimby / injector bypass hoses
I take a pair of pliers and grab the old hose along the nipple and "crush" it off (without actually touching the nipple). This pulls all the old hose off most of the time. The hoses that Rusty & all other MB parts dealers sell are made of fabric covered natural rubber & they have a shelf life. I suspect that Rusty's supplier has gotten into some old stock. It's not his fault but he needs to know about it so that he can send feedback to his supplier. Interesting, I did them on my 190D awhile ago (last fall maybe? it was cold out...) and they're just fine. Well, they're not leaking enough that I'd notice anyway. Did the 240D before I got rid of it and AFAIK they're still fine too.
