Faster than a diesel finback, I wonder?  I've been eyeing this one:

How about a diesel Ponton with automatic transmission? The Heckflosse Alex
linked to has a 2 liter motor. The '64 190Dc we had had a 1.9 liter motor
and an automatic transmission. The earlier Pontons had 1.8 liter motors.

Nothing is slower than a diesel heckflosse, but they're so cool that you
eventually realize you'd rather spend more time driving it, and less
time at your destination anyways.

A Florida car without AC and the trailer hitch is the crowning touch.

The A/C might knock off a noticeable fraction of available power, but not as
noticeable as towing a trailer. At any rate, a diesel Chevette has got to be
faster than a non-turbo diesel LUV, they had the same engine.
The turbo 4x4 LUV used to have a cult following, more so than the Subaru BRAT
AFAIK. The LUV guys used to buy up Chevettes for engine parts, kind of like
Sunbeam Alpines disappearing to provide body and interior parts for the Tigers.
