[MBZ] Chinee Endoscope

2016-07-14 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I think we were discussing the cheap (sub $10) eBay/Chinee endoscopes a while
back.

I just got mine last week and had a chance to play with it last night. I found
that on a Mac if I used the Photobooth application and chose the USB camera as
the input it worked great.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/262310448166?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=561070589046&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

No do it yourself colonoscopies just yet, but with the little time I spent with
it I think it could easily pay for itself with a couple of uses.

I'd be interested since I have a macBook. What do you use it for again?

Yeah, I was dinking around with all sorts of third party open source camera
apps and while reading on some forum about them I noticed someone mentioned
PhotoBooth.

Having always thought about PhotoBooth as a goofy throw away toy sort of app I
have never used it but maybe once to see how it worked, many years ago.

Imagine my surprise when I opened PhotoBooth, went to Preferences and chose
“USB Camera”!

Fun.

I just bought it for scoping stuff on the car in hard to get places. I’ll have
the injectors out in the next month or two if things go well and I’ll use it to
take a look at the cylinders while the injectors and glow plugs are out just to
see what it looks like inside the engine.

For under $7 to my doorstep I figure if it helps me once it’s more than paid
for itself.

That’s what my $5.99 mega magnet on a stick from Sears I bought in 1981 is for.
I was working on my Pinto and dropped the hex tool for the head bolts down the
oil drain on the back of the head. I ran to Sears and found the magnet on an
extendible stick for $5.99 which I used to extract the hex tool from the oil
pan with.

That tool has saved me more times that I would like to recall.

There is an adjustment wheel on the side of the plug where the USB plug is
located. I just noticed it today, but haven’t had a chance to plug it back in.
 I would assume that’s what it’s for.

I have one of those magnets too, probably a Sears. Do you have a link
to the colonoscope? I think I have seen them on DX or banggood but if
you had good luck I'll order one from your vendor too.

I got a similar doodad via banggood that plugs into my android phone or
my computer. Interesting dual sort of plug for usb.

Got it to work on the Samsung phone. Have not tried it on the computer.
Thought I would mostly use it with the phone as that is smaller and more
portable than a laptop.

I should try mine on one of my iPods with the USB adapter. Since it works with
Photo Booth it may very well do the same on the iPads. That would definitely
be better than having to mess with the laptop.
