Edmunds is telling me about 2400 trade, 3200 private party, 4300 retail.

So what's the crash damage you want to know if Carfax has in its database? ;-)

J/K, I had Kaleb run the only car I ever bought new, just because I
wanted to see what the report looked like. I think Savage is the sugar
daddy of the month for Carfax.

I assume it's automatic?

It is a manual. He bought the 2.5T (that I own now... still for sale!)
when he was injured to the point he couldn't drive a standard.

OK, so drop $100 from the Edmunds prices I quoted and add me to the
interested buyers list. I'm not as far away from Columbus as Snookums is.

My mother had a 97 Civic until last fall when she gave it to my niece. Low
miles and not winter driven but
certainly never any issues with it.

She picked up her new 08 Civic on this past Saturday and I drove it for a half
hour or so. Very nice. Civic's keep
getting bigger. I think that it must be close to the size of my 115 MB. Not
much room under the hood. Would not
like being the mechanic who had to work on it but loads of room inside the car.

Re: [MBZ] Civic

2008-05-21 Thread Sunil Hari
I love this list!

My dad bought it new in November of 1996, drove it for 6 years, then let me
borrow it for 5 years.

It is a 5-speed manual and has 135,000 miles. The car has never been smoked
in. I have full records for all major services. The timing belt and water
pump were replaced at 90K, new tires at 90K, all fluids flushed and filled
at 130K. I've done oil and filter changes myself every 5,000 miles with full
synthetic oil since 100,000 miles - prior to that, oil was changed every
3-5,000 miles by a shop. It burns zero oil. I recharged the A/C last summer
and it works perfectly.

Options - power windows and locks, power mirrors, cruise control. The radio
has integrated support for an iPod and the necessary cable is already
installed. However, if you want a CD player installed instead, that can be
arranged.

It gets 35mpg highway at 75mph, 40mpg at 60mph.

The emissions system (oxygen sensor, etc) is still under warranty through
Honda until 150,000 miles or November 2011, whichever comes first.
The crash damage that will probably pop up is from a crash in March of 1997
(yes, 6 months after buying it) - old man in a Cadillac crossed the double
yellow line and hit us on the front passenger side. No engine/transmission
damage. All work was done at the dealer using only new parts. Driven it
another 130,000 miles since then without incident.

As for price, I'd like to believe it's worth more than the private party
value just because of one-owner history, non-smoker interior, iPod support,
and full maintenance records. But I could be very wrong and misguided.

My Mother's 97 Civic was 4 door silver, with automatic. Fairly plain as no
power windows etc. Had about 40,000
miles on it when she gave it to my niece in October 2007. Not bad - 4K miles
per year and stored in the winter. I
want the next one. Mom is 76 and it should be available within the next 5 years
or so. I hope she doesn't wreck it!

I did the edmunds TMV for a "clean" car, which is several hundred $$$
above a good or average car. Anyway, run it yourself and edmunds.com
and see what you get. Hondas and Toyotas seem to go higher than I'd
normally want to pay, but they are a lot more popular than 10 year
old Tauri.

In that case, of course it hasn't been in any accidents.

No really, this bothers me. Why wouldn't have that accident been reported
to Carfax? More appropriately, where does Carfax get accident data from?
The other driver was definitely cited for the accident, police were
involved. Airbags didn't deploy, but that shouldn't matter. Should it?

We made the claim on the other guy's insurance, and i would think Carfax
would pay insurance companies to send them claim reports.
