They do that differently in '81 than '80, or is that another hack job? Which pic? The convertible is an '85 CA model with all associated weirdness intact, but not pictured. If you mean this one http://thomas.savage.org/123/images/DSCN3902.JPG I dunno but that's an '81 Canadian 240D with fewer than 4000 miles and is exactly as it left the factory, with the sad exception of the dealer-applied rustproofing. Reminder to 123 fans - if anyone wants a great 1985 300D parts car with a shot interior but good drive train and four recently flat tires, please contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] or call 202 744-8748. The car has a lot of new parts (e.g., radiator) and was a decent daily driver not that long ago. It could move again if the tires were replaced... Can be towed anytime. Located in Laurel, MD (between D.C. and Baltimore). Asking price is now down to $800. I have no financial stake in this transaction... Basically a very knowledgeable longtime Mercedes fan owner interested only in function and cost. I gather he's used the car for just about everything you can imagine. It was bursting with wonderful surprises, like the Mitsubishi radiator and the oil cooler sitting atop the wheel well with a bicycle innertube tied around it. And the tractor hand throttle cum cruise control and the unopened tins of wax in the trunk. Runs like a top, though; he's running all synthetic fluids in it. Tom

I see no justification for how they left that weird overhang of sheetmetal where the front of the roof used to join the windshield, other than to provide a place for the sunvisors to live. And what's with the dual exhausts? Did somebody sneak a Chevy 350 under the hood or something? Alex Chamberlain '87 300D Turbo '93 Isuzu Trooper

That Milan Brown 300D is a twin of my 300D although it's newer. Mine was cleaner, though. So that's how the Germans spell "root beer"! (Looks like our 450 SL is that color.) I always thought the 123 coupe would make a fine looking convertible, but their choice of where to cut through the roof was wrong. Looks too much like "I cut through the roof here" to my eye. Makes my 250C conversion convertible look much better. -- Jim
