Re: [MBZ] E300D Glow Plug Relay Problem

2012-05-31 Thread Dieselhead
In my experience, this is a bad relay or a #1 glow plug going bad.
Could happen with new GP. Switch #1 and any other. I am betting it
is a bad relay.

It's possible to have loose contacts in the relay that cause it (or
the light only) to come on when it should be off. Obviously, a
loose wire from the keyswitch will do the same thing, but other
things should be cycling too (does the radio antenna go up and down,
for instance?).

I had this happen on my Volvo TD -- if it happened at night, the
alternator couldn't keep up and the battery would go dead. Pretty
obvious, though, since the relay rattled when shaken!

been suggested that bad ignition may be cause this, if this was the
case I would think it would come on multiple time through the ride
as part of the interstate through Cincinnati are very rough. I may
just replace the relay and see if that cures the problem. I just
replaced all six glow plugs this past February.
