Re: [MBZ] Electrical Observation
Thanks for sharing the observation. I will indeed measure the voltage, ans try to determine if there's a correlation to the flashing light. I've only noticed it a three times, out of probably 20 trips. Hi Don, Don't know if it has anything to do with your problem or not, but when my battery/alternator died yesterday, the SRS and ABS lights both lit up and when the rpm's picked up they dimmed - I assume this was from output from the alternator. Since installing the new battery they haven't come back on - athough we aren't driving it since the alternator only produces 12.5V at 3000 rpm - -- OK Don, KD5NRO Norman, OK "The Americans will always do the right thing... after they've exhausted all the alternatives." Since installing the new battery they haven't come back on - athough we aren't driving it since the alternator only produces 12.5V at 3000 rpm - thankfully, Rusty is shipping a new alt which will arrive Monday. Looks pretty easy to switch out. And I'll definately disconnect the battery - learned *that* lesson on the Chev Malibu. Sorry - got distracted - back to your question ;-) I wonder if there's a loose connection somewhere in the SRS system causing a leak in volts or watts - whichever is in those wires with the smoke. But whatever you do, never, ever allow the smoke to get out of the wires. Fortunately smoke can be bought on eBay if you're willing to pay a credit card surcharge, and wait 4 looong days for it to arrive in a box that's beat all to hell box. But even with the replacement smoke (provided free with new Lucas systems) I bet it's a PITA to get the smoke back in those itty-bitty wires., Larry T (67 MGB, 74 911, 78 240D, 91 300D) www.youroil.net for Oil Analysis and Weber Parts Test Results http://members.rennlist.com/oil Weber Carb Info http://members.rennlist.com/webercarbs Porsche Road Test http://members.rennlist.com/roadtest/ . - Original Message - From: "OK Don" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Mercedes Discussion List" Sent: Thursday, July 27, 2006 9:47 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] Electrical Observation Speaking of weird things like that, the SRS light is flashing on for several seconds, seemingly at random, in the '90 300D 2.5. scenarios like "Charge Indicator lamp lights up wien ign switched off & enfine not running" along with a possible cause - like "Short circuit of positive diode" (whatever thehellthatis) There are two banks (of three) diodes inside the alternator, half on the positive side and half on the negative. (And I think the Bosch's have another three for supplying self-generated field power.) -- Jim

Yep, just as I thought. "T" for "take it to Iowa." Ask the wife -- the voices don't lie. You'd better bring it north soon, too, or the fillings in your mouth will start bringing in rap stations instead of NPR.
