'Reminds me:  I flew a Cessna puddle jumper (172 or 182), SWMBO in right 
seat, from Sault St. Marie, MI, to Holland, MI, one weekend in about '74 for 
Tulip Festival.  'Standing on Main St. when parade came through; painted on 
side of a big base drum in one of the high school bands was "Charlotte High 
School Marching Band."  I was surprised to see a high school band all the 
way from Charlotte; walked few steps along beside base drummer and asked, 
"Are you from Charlotte, NC?"  He replied, "No, Cha-loat, MI."  Oh!

One of my best rides ever was when three of us rode a little over 100 
miles to Lake Michigan for the weekend. Four hours after we left Charlotte 
on Saturday, we were eating Whoppers for lunch in Holland.
Unfortunately, the wind was still blowing strong out of the east on Sunday 
when we rode home. We didn't make it back in four hours, that's for sure. 
One guy even tried to call his wife to come get us after 80 miles, but she 
didn't answer the phone.
