[MBZ] Genny, again

2015-12-17 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes

The power went out again. This time, the rope-pull fired right
up. The new addition, the load-balancing transformer, is working
nicely. Poured in the last 5 gallon jerry can before firing it up.

We'll see how it goes!

Funny how the rattle engine runs better when it is not trying to shut

Just shy of three hours and the power was back on, no
problems whatsoever. Shut off the fuel cock and let it
run dry, switched the house back over to shore power.

Didn't use that much fuel, will probably have to siphon
a bunch out to fill the snowblower tomorrow!

Last thing I want is 4 gallons of gas going stale in that
thing.

I fill mine with low volatility "summer gas" in September,
and start transferring the leftovers to the mower after
the sale of high vapor pressure stuff is banned again in
the spring.

I put Stabil in all the gas I buy that doesn't go directly into the truck -
haven't had a problem with stale gas since. Mind you, I buy gas by the 55
gal. drum, and pump it to where it's needed from there.

Re: [MBZ] Genny, again

2015-12-18 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Is that AVGAS? AFAIK AVGAS doesn't have ethanol while most MOGAS does.
I put 1oz of Seafoam gas additive per gallon of gas into every can of gas I
buy. Additionally equipment thats going to sit (like the snowblower over the
summer) gets 1oz per gallon during storage. Since I've started doing that my
problems with bad gas have gone way down.I did have to clean a carb and rebuild
a fuel pump this fall for a snowmobile but its the one I bought last spring so
it could have already been in trouble when I got it and in fact looking back it
had a stumble I couldn't really account for...
The shutoff is suspenders and belt. My lawnmower has a shutoff and I run it out
every time I shut it down. It starts fantastically well, like second or third
pull every time I start it.
If Angie is going to start the lawnmower the choke will inevitably stick on and
it won't start. She'll call me (in the Philippines for instance) and I'll
explain that the choke sticks sometimes and all you have to do is tug on the
little rod next to the carb and it'll come loose. She'll claim she's done that
and it still won't start. I'll get home, pull the choke open and it'll start in
a big cloud of smoke from all the gas in the exhaust...

Nope, it's non-ethanol regular unleaded 87 octane pump gas. The Cessna
loves it - no lead to foul the spark plugs and sludge the oil, unlike avgas
(and half the cost).

I am going to assume the Cessna has had hardened valve seats installed?

I pump it into a 55 gallon drum that I carry in the back of the truck - no,
it's the same price.
