Already ruled out (and maybe disconnected).


It turned out to be operator error: I had turned the ignition key to the
"run" position so I could move the transmission shift lever all the way
backward for clearance when I worked on the radio and had not moved the
transmission lever all the way forward and removed the key.

Now, the test lamp glows brightly for about half a second and then goes
out. The initial surge of current is about 1/2 amp -- though I don't know
if my Fluke 77 has enough time to stabilize -- but the final current is
low and varies continuously between 12.5 and 18.1 mA. (Note: 15 mA for
30 days is 10.8 ampere-hours, so it is quite low enough to officially
say it's not a problem.)

Now I need to see if I can connect the antenna and other things without
the current drain increasing -- and then continue on to get the car on
the road!
