It was indeed a very good time. I think my favorite cars of the weekend
were Don's Quantum and Craig's 240D 3.0. And it turns out John Robbins
and I went to the same high school.

A good time had by all, and many thanks to Don for putting it together.

Re: [MBZ] IowaQ update!

2007-10-15 Thread archer
Work in a small room with someone who drinks beer and eats German liver
sausage every day. Makes chicken farms and paper plants smell sweet.

I've heard of only one thing worse but never smelled it. Knew a trucker who
hauled chicken guts from Macon, Ga to Gainesville, Georgia every night to be
made into animal feed and fertilizer. He drove fast and frequently got
caught by the highway patrol. While the patrolman was still in his car,
he'd open the back hatch on the tanker and the gentle odor of chicken guts
that had been simmering all day in the hot Georgia sun wafted over the
patrol car. He never even got a warning ticket. The police would yell at
him through a cracked window to slow down and then burn rubber to get away
from it.
All the cops finally heard about the "gut wagon" and just let him go.

And as anyone who's been down wind of a steel plant can attest to, there are

Subject: [MBZ] IowaQ update!

We had fun. No one got wasted and made a fool of him/herself, there was
plenty of food (my frig is bursting at the seams with leftovers), and I got
to drive Tommy's 1998 S420. I need one -- would look good in my garage. I am
in LOVE. Robbin's 300D snapped my neck and made me reluctant to climb back
into my 240D. My wife wants one just like it to replace her Buick. Everyone
got to drive everyone else's cars -- including Kleb at the wheel of my
Quantum. I am a bit disappointed that no one asked to drive my 240D, but I
guess all attending had driven a riding lawn mower before.

Summary for those who missed it. Weather forecast was partly cloudy with a
30% chance of rain. The 30% started about 10 pm last night and continued on
and off all day long. Fortunately, I have a large garage so Debbie and I
swept and cleaned all morning long, and the venue was ready at 11:45 (for a
noon kickoff). Sixteen chairs from my business hauled in the back seat of a
240D and we had a party. In other words, my $2K deck, that should have been
the cornerstone of the party, was not walked upon (except by a really cool
dog).

Thanks to all who attended. A memorable day and perhaps we shall do it again
next year. After all, you can't get more center of the nation than Iowa!

Several folks took pics but I forgot to take any myself. Hopefully those who
did will upload them.

Thanks for the report, Lt. Don. Hopefully someone was taking photos
Too bad it wasn't 2K miles closer to me...I ended up having the day off.

Re: [MBZ] IowaQ update -- getting colder

2007-09-14 Thread LWB250
63? Haven't seen 63F in probably 8-9 months. It
might get down to 75 tonight...

Still decent bike weather after the sun goes down,
though. Just bought a Mustang seat for the Virago and
took it for a spin tonight.

No monkey butt here.

Re: [MBZ] IowaQ update -- getting colder

2007-09-14 Thread Wonko the Sane
Big-ass cold front rolled thru. I actually had to come home from work at
10:00 and put on a sweater. Changed into the "yippie wear" at lunch to go to
a meeting, and the blue oxford shirt was enough to keep me warm during the
afternoon.

Gettin' chilly, though. Walnuts are falling so quickly that one needs a hard
hat to check the garden. Dead leaves are starting to leave the branches.
Only need to mow 1x/week rather than 2x/week.

Ah, autumn is in the air and it feels good. Perfect motorcycle riding
weather.

Good chance of our first frost tonight.
