Had a' 60's Dodge Dart. Whole dash was all chrome. Nice glare with the
sun in the rear window.
5 Push buttons arranged vertical for the tranny next to a horizontal
arrangement of push buttons for the radio controls.
Tried to change the AM station, missed and hit the reverse button doing 50.
Wasn't locked out.
Must have looked like the old AAMCO commercial. Transmission parts and
pieces all over the highway.

Your only mistake was having someone catch you when it happened

Thank goodness it was something simple. I had no idea the W140 chassis lock

I also took the opportunity to hit the lock cylinder with a little bit of

Another reason I love 240Ds (of any stripe), 123s, 124s and 126s.
'specially the Diesels!

No dopey toadas for me please!

I had a rental a couple of years ago that had the silly Start
button and no ignition. As long as the fob was close enough the car
would start (it was in my pocket.)

I could never shake the need to reach up to the dash with the key
and try to put it into an ignition. Really disturbing.

you hit the 'Start' button?

I hope to never own a car with start and stop buttons.

My gl has the keyless go(push button), I was in a dodge truck today,
brand new, had a knob on the dash next to the radio that you turned
to shift the gears

Now that's real manly!

That stupidity will peak when you have to click start to stop

Bill's stupidity will go on a long time.

Way to GO, Curt!

I had one of those on a rental car, fortunately there was an LED
screen in the dash prompting me with the foot on the brake thing...

Which reminds me, the other day after work my 240D wouldn't start,
it acted kind of crazy, I pushed my glow plug button and heard the
relay clunk, then shudder on and off, turned the key and nothing. I
jumped out and opened the hood. The car parked in front of me was a
late model Golf TDI, the owner said You okay? I replied dunno
yet. he came over and shook his head obviously out of his league.

Acting on a hunch I retrieved the adjustable wrench from the console
and pulled the ground cable. The guy said I've got this guy you
could call if you need, he's real good the guy pulls out his phone
and starts looking for the number, I spun the ground cable back and
forth a couple times on the battery post, tightened it down, jumped
back in the car and hit the button, the relay clicked and held 10
seconds later the car was running. I jumped out and closed the hood.
Hey thanks for checking on me.

Jumped back in the car, the dude scratched his head as I drove off...

Chrysler had a push button transmission back in the late 50's or early 60's
didn't they? - nothing new there.
