[MBZ] My car doesn't exist!

2005-10-25 Thread Donald Snook
Dieselers,

I went to the MBUSA website to check out some info on my car (1990 300D
2.5) and the website has the following statement:

"Body Style 124
Introduced as 300D 2.5 Turbo Sedan to U.S. Fall 1991
Facelifted, engine changed and name changed to E300 Diesel Sedan Spring
1994+"

I guess that means that according to MBUSA my car doesn't exist.
Strange.

Don,
I am in the process of buying John Peterson's 1990 300D 2.5t. so that makes
at least two non existent examples. Can't find a reference to these in James
Taylor's book-Vol 4.

According to my source (may or may not be correct - I've established
that there are some mistakes), relatively few (<400) 300D 2.5s were
manufactured in 1990 and those were put into production relatively late
compared to other 1990 model year cars. It is possible that because of
that, Mercedes considered them to be model year 1991 even though they
were sold and registered as 1990 cars in the US. What is the build date
(on the plate in the drivers door jam)?
