I seem to recall a lengthy thread on wood gas a while back.

My former business partner experimented with it and had all sorts of
documentation on how to do it.

Nothing new there. in the 40s, many gas engines in Germany were
modified to use wood gas. In the USA, in the 40s, many tractors were
modified to use wood gas. I have seen an extension publication from
the 40s that had detailed instruction about how to do it. (Lawyers
were not whack jobs then. Or at least the lawyer population was
under control)

In the Deutsches Museum in Munich, there is a big Mercedes Benz
modified to run on woodgas during WWII.

Re: [MBZ] NOT MB but of interest to the motoring heads

2013-04-17 Thread Gerry Archer
This is especially interesting to me since his rig is homebuilt and uses few
commerically manufactured components. For example, he uses hay for the
filter. Without a very effective filter, tar can seize the pistons. (Don't
ask me how I know.) Also, we have lots of wood fuel down here in West
Central Florida; much of it just for the taking. He said he might sell
plans eventually. If he does, I'll be tempted to buy a set, have some parts
made, and install the system in my SILs 1996 150 Ford PU since he is
thinking about buying a 2013 150 with some new type engine they are selling.
As you point out, it's old technology and there are many plans available;
but many don't work as well as the authors claim. If I built this rig, I
would first go up to Alabama and see his rigs in action. Mother Earth has a
pretty good reputation for publishing workable designs.
