Re: [MBZ] New to me eMac
Spent time at RE-PC discussing why my powerbook G3 will not upgrade to OS X with some guy who is running stuff on old Iici and cx. Upgraded to a 8100 with dual drives so he can boot into OS 7.6.1 for some software he has had forever, and the other drive is OS 9.1. Nice day to go shopping in Gump, so hit Goodwill and got a PB 5300 with messed up screen for pennies. Runs fine, just need to find a screen. Might load it into Gump to let the back seat people surf the web at speed. On Jan 28, 2007, at 3:59 PM, Sunil Hari wrote: what can vista do that XP or win2k can't? You must have at least 128 MB to load OX 10 on a G3 powerbook (except the Kanga, you may not get that one to go at all). 10.3.x requires 256, and won't install otherwise, I've tried. Was at the Apple store with oldest boy helping him look at iPods. Opened the door for some poor fellow loaded down with an eMac. He wanted to let them recycle the thing and order a new one since this was broken. They told him no luck getting it recycled there, but they will take his order. He left it on the table with the iPods while he filled out his order. I take a peek at the thing. Full of dust bunnies. No indication what speed, but it had three USB and a digital video out. Must be good for parts. When he is done, I tell the guy that I can recycle it for him. He is happy not to have to haul it back home or even back to his car. Off it goes in my arms and to home where some canned air gets the nasties out and I have a nice 700Mhz G4 eMac for nothing. Wonder if I can get another car that cheap. Well, these things are not light by any stretch. The iMac is feather weight in comparison. I think there is a bunch of armor in the body that acts as shielding for use in computer labs that the home version iMacs did not have. Nice to get the speed bump and a burner for that price. I've been tempted to go to one of those 'gun buybacks' where they trade $50 gift certificates for guns and offer $100 cash for anything worth $200 or more.

Re: [MBZ] New to me eMac
Cause we don't talk about hardly anything that is new, and when we do, we gripe about it (new labels on Mobil 1). I've found Vista to be lacking critical HW drivers for HP Tablet PCs, and have had it lock up (or just get really slow) a couple of times. It's not ready for prime time yet, IMHO. oh, hell, i'm not even going to look at vista until i have to. as long as the one or two things i have to do on windoze can still be done on XP, that is the end of the line for me. I imagine i have at least 5 years. On 1/28/07, OK Don [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Cause we don't talk about hardly anything that is new, and when we do, we gripe about it (new labels on Mobil 1). Re: [MBZ] New to me eMac
what can vista do that XP or win2k can't? Moreover, what can vista do that OS X can't?
