When you say, "to the top" do you mean the top/Hot mark ? Or to the top of the filler neck? There are 2 lines on the side of the Exp Tk. - one for Low/Cold and another for High/Hot levels. And yes, I sell Oil Analysis Kits. You said there was no oil in the coolant and vice versa, but it's very difficult see unless there is a large amount of it - The Oil Analysis will detect any amount of water or Glycol in the oil sample down to 1 or 2 ppm. You could have your engine oil analyzed for presence of coolant (Larry - you still sell the kits, right?). You could also buy a kit at Napa to test the coolant for presence of exhaust gasses. Kit cost ~$60 or so I believe, and the description said that it worked on diesel engines as well as gasoline. I think it's worth spending a little bit of money to get more evidence, but I agree with your diagnoses. Is there a chance you did not loose any antifreeze, but it went into the overflow chamber located inside the fender well? There is a tube that goes from the plastic fill tank toward the battery and then down to this chamber.
