Pull the motor. You can probably just weld the bosses solid again and redrill them. Or find a junkyard motor and swap it out. [MBZ] OT: BMW X5
Well, I'm completely screwed. When I went to put the car back together I found that the 'professional' mobile mechanic had trapped one of the oil cooler pipes on the wrong side of the mount. I had to remove the mount arm again in order to rectify things. I jacked up the engine as step one. That's when I discovered: 1) The arm was rattling loose on the block, once tension had been removed. WTF? I then went to remove the five bolts that hold the arm on the engine. And I discover: 2) All five bolts are not even finger-tight. I did not need a wrench to remove them. I did need two different sockets. With the arm out of there I can finally see the work site. The original problem was three broken-off bolts, which the mechanic was hired to remove. What I find is: 3) All three bolt holes are hogged out large. One has a protruding helicoil in it, the other two are not even threaded, and are broken out into the air on one side. The large holes are shallower than the originals, and I think I can see bolt residue at the bottoms. Basically the engine block is ruined. And I spent money to have it ruined for me. IF I can drill the arm and deploy a never-used bolt hole in the casting, and can get the one helicoiled hole to hold torque, it's possible the situation can be recovered somewhat, having working 4 bolts total. I don't know if the helicoil was not installed to depth, or if he didn't actually tap it properly and it just pulled out when he applied torque. Guess I need to figure that out next. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

My impression of BMW is "overengineered, gratuitous complexity" that is wonderful until it needs repair. Some would say the same about MB of course, but I think BMW does it to an even greater degree.
