One reason I'm still strongly interested in getting my Dodge, with its
Bosch P7100 inline
mechanical injection pump, back on the road. Bulletproof pump, pretty much
the same
sort of thing a 240D has in it. The whole drivetrain is pretty robust.

Same theme, different demise.

Our 2018 x5d with less than 5k miles ate its high pressure fuel pump,
showering everything downstream with shrapnel. A new fuel system is on
order from east coast. Car is out of commission until further notice.

Nice car while it lasted. How can these pump failures not be class action
material? They are killing everything from duramax isuzu motors to vws to
bmws. Bad fuel my a $$.

I dont expect much from a new car, but not leaving the wife and kids
standing on the road shoulder is pretty high on the list. Otoh, happy it
didnt happen halfway to phoenix in the desert last week.

The gears grind slowly, there has been no official notice of anything yet,
but I heard from the shop looking at it that they hit $19k in repair
estimates and stopped counting. I have found a potential donor truck, a
'96 V10 with a weak auto tranny, that might be for sale for $1500. I don't
think DIY is in the cards for this level of operation, I am beating the
bushes trying to find a place that might be willing to accomplish the swap,
I presume for a fairly substantial chunk of the settlement. Plus they'd
get to keep the leftovers like the V10 if they wanted.

Truck was 1997 Diesel 3/4T 2500, extended cab, long bed, manual NV4500

bulletproof. Only 110kmi on it, seats and interior perfect. Highly
desirable vehicle, and not particularly common.

Only one of those was a match. 242kmi, and a salvage title, and was still
$15k!
