Gump pulled in $250 for a stripped down hulk. Would have been $300 if I took it to them. The only people that are supposed to be able to buy used converters legally is a salvage yard. It is a big fine if you get caught installing a used catalytic converter. alternators may be sold separately also. since i had a lot of cars I got to the know the junk guy. he would remove alternator and cats and take the rest to the scrap yard where they would ultimately be melted. depending on where you go they may not may not require gas tank removal. i think he usually removed. Can anyone provide a reasonable estimate of the current scrap prices per 100lb for vehicles, with no special preparation (e.g. with engine, transmission, etc. NOT removed). I'm sure there's some variation by region and buyer but I'm just interested in a ballpark.
