Vald runs circles around 44, but he sees vlad as his buddy in a 
stationary place.



The B-70 was one of the sticks used to beat down the cold war Soviet 
economy.  Build 2 prototypes, fly them around some, make the 
rooshans build lots of missiles and interceptors and radars and all 
that stuff.  Reagan talking about "Star Wars" and missile 
interceptors got them pretty much beat to the ground.  They finally 
realized they couldn't keep up.

Remarkable times and events we of this era have lived through.

The aircraft designers immediately post WW2, with only slide rules, brains
and logic, created machines that have endured long past their own lives.
The SR71 still holds flight records that have never been broken.. the B52
flies on, crewed often by men who were not even born when it was designed
and built, and rebuilt, and rebuilt..

I wonder, what's next?

Yep, an awesome airplane - the B-70 was one of several that have been 
designed and proposed during the last nearly 60 years to replace the B-52, 
and none has dislodged it yet.  B-70 was strictly a high altitude aircraft 
emerging just as the Soviets were perfecting high altitude anti-aircraft 
missile systems.  B-52 was able to go low - very low - to counter the 
anti-aircraft missile threat.  That and cost doomed the B-70.  Others meant 
to replace the B-52 and failed to do so were FB-111, B -1 and B-2.  None 
other has yet to be as cost-effective as the B-52.  Of course, there've been 
many others that did not make it to construction and flight stages.
