Re: [MBZ] OT Mac: Bummer

2015-11-19 Thread clay via Mercedes
For longevity I would be aimed at a Mid 2010 with the Core i5. The C2D are
getting long in the tooth and apt to hit their ceiling OS wise. That does
orphan a bunch of legacy hardware.

That and the CD only does 32 bit processing while the C2D does 64
bit. L2 (Level 2) cache in the CD is 2MB while the C2D L2 is up to
4MB.

There are also some additional features in the C2D such as memory
disambiguation that allows it to process more data at once at a
higher speed, but it can also get to that data faster.

Pretty much any Intel PC processor you buy today is a C2D design,
with the primary differences being FSB (front side bus) speed and
the amount of CPU cache memory.

Dan

then there are i5 and i7 processors. Mine is an i5 so I think it
will hang on a few more years.

You need older versions for browsers, the new ones for download are
always the latest.\

Chrome has stopped supporting 10.6.8, but I'm sure you can download
the older version of that.

Firefox is still current for 10.6.8 as a couple months ago when I
downloaded the last version. Again, if the latest version won't work,
find an older one.
