I thought Mazda had that pretty much licked by the time the RX3 came
out. IIRC, that had an expected life of around 100k when 60k was
considered good for a set of piston rings on an American car.

Having had 3 RX7's (2 ist generation and 1 2nd) I loved the cars.
There is nothing to break on a rotary. The only rotary repair is
the front engine seal which mine started throwing oil at 200K miles.
It was a 400 dollar repair. Gas mileage with the rotary suffers as
compared to an ICE but they are truly a blast to drive and
bulletproof.

Look around and you will be amazed at how many first generation RX7's
are still on the roadmy neighbor has 3 daily drivers!

Wankel engine is also ICE. But not piston! Tip seals were the
weak spot on those I thought, effectively the same as leaking
rings in that oil consumption goes up a lot when they're worn.

Yeah, ICE, now that was dumb!

It was pretty easy to catch the seal failure as the front of the
engine would have a nice coating of oil and the garage floor would
have a spot or two. Catch it early enough, no problemo.
